Ideas for bike rides starting from Balazuc
Easy walk: Balazuc – Vogüé (10 km round trip)
The perfect route for families or beginners. You can reach Vogüé in about 20 minutes. This medieval village, built on the side of a cliff, has a lovely market on Monday mornings, cobbled streets and a pleasant beach by the river.
Intermediate ride: Balazuc – Ruoms (20 km round trip)
This section of the Via Ardèche passes through spectacular scenery. Ruoms is a lively village with a Friday morning market, restaurants, ice cream parlours and wine cellars. Ideal for a full day out.
Nature loop: Balazuc – Grospierres – return via Chauzon
A longer route (30 km), perfect for an electric bike. Pass through tunnels, viewpoints and forests before returning along picturesque little roads. We recommend stopping off at Labeaume, a stone village nestled on the banks of the river.
The Via Ardèche: an accessible and spectacular greenway
The Via Ardèche is one of the most pleasant cycle routes in the region. Built on a former railway line, it offers a safe, car-free, gently sloping track, ideal for families and cycle tourists alike.
It is 25 km long and connects the villages of Vogüé and Grospierres, passing by many points of interest: converted railway tunnels, viaducts, viewpoints, beaches on the banks of the Ardèche, local markets and typical villages.
The landscape changes as you ride along: fragrant scrubland, limestone cliffs, oak forests, lavender fields, vineyards, rivers… Marvel at the warm lights of the southern Ardèche, the song of the cicadas and the scents of the Mediterranean.
The local wildlife is also out in force: keep an eye out for Bonelli’s eagles, grey herons, ocellated lizards and beavers, which inhabit some of the rivers. At the end of the day, you may even spot a deer crossing the undergrowth.
